Glutathione is classified as a Category C drug, meaning that risk to the fetus cannot be ruled out. There is limited data on the safety of glutathione during pregnancy, and it should only be used when the benefits justify the potential risks. Physicians should weigh the potential therapeutic benefits against the risk of adverse outcomes.

Breastfeeding: Glutathione is present in human breast milk in small amounts, but no definitive studies on its effects on breastfeeding infants are available. Caution should be exercised when administering glutathione to breastfeeding mothers.

Glutathione injectable can be given subcutaneously or intramuscularly a few times a week to weekly. It can also be administered via IV infusion mixed in a large volume parenteral over a few hours.
Some specialized short term regimen call for daily dosing under experienced supervision.

While glutathione is generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience side effects:

  1. Allergic Reactions: Rare cases of skin rash, itching, and anaphylactic reactions have been reported. Immediate discontinuation and treatment may be required if these reactions occur.

  2. Injection Site Reactions: Local irritation, pain, or swelling at the injection site may occur in some patients. To mitigate this, ensure proper injection technique and rotate injection sites.
  3. Gastrointestinal Issues: Mild nausea or upset stomach may occur in some patients, especially if glutathione is administered too rapidly. Slowing the infusion rate can help reduce this effect.
  4. Headache: Some patients may report mild headaches, which typically resolve on their own or with the use of over-the-counter analgesics.

Respiratory Issues: Although rare, some individuals may experience mild shortness of breath or wheezing. Patients should be monitored closely for any signs of respiratory distress.
